the NT that use aphiēmi to express what the Lord will do to or for believers (Jew or Gentile).10 Just two days after the Discourse, Jesus used aphiēmi of what He would not do to the disciples: “I will not leave [aphiēmi] you as orphans; I will come to you” (John 14:18). If the one “taken” is taken away for judgment, it is peculiar that a word characterized by personal accompaniment is employed while the one “left” to enter the kingdom is described with a word frequently used for the forsaken.
